Florence Nott was born in 1860, the youngest daughter of Dr George Nott & his wife Sarah (nee Williams). She attended St. George’s school and in 1869 when she was in 2nd Class, the Bunyip reported she “read decidedly better than any of the two classes” (Bunyip 18 Dec 1869). Throughout the 1880s she was part of the Gawler Lawn Tennis Club and a performer in the St George’s Singing Association (Bunyip 3 Aug 1883, Bunyip 3 Sept 1886, Evening Journal 7 Sep 1888, Bunyip 25 Oct 1889).
She is best known for running a private school, Miss Nott's School, from about 1894 to at least 1911 from her residence at Lot 70 Express Street, Gawler West (now 16 Fourteenth Street, Gawler South)(Coombe 1910).
By 1923 Florence Nott had moved to Henley Beach, where she died in 1940, in her 80th year (Chronicle 15 Aug 1940).
