Doug Rau, amongst his other attributes, was a beekeeper. Doug lived in Twentieth Street, Gawler South with his wife Nancy.

Brian Thom (13 Gawler Terrace) remembers that 11 Gawler Terrace was a vacant block owned in the 1950's by Cecil and Lottie Sweeney. At the front of the block was a most magnificent River Red Gum and it often shaded Cec Sweeney's Apiarist Van when parked in the street. Cec went all over the State with his bees and the honey would be extracted in a large shed at the back of his 9 Gawler Terrace home. Brian Thom recalls Doug Rau and Max Barker working with Cec.
