Brenda May Tiller (née Hancock)

Was born in Gawler at Old Hutchinson Hospital on 28 January 1937 and Died at Gawler Health Service 19 March 2013 Brenda grew up in Wasleys living next door to the Ridley Arms Hotel, Brenda attended the Wasleys Primary School from 1942 until 1947. She then worked in the Family business which was a mixture of saddlery, Hairdressing and delicatessen. Brenda’s family then moved to Twenty-first Street, Gawler South mid-1956. Her parents built on the backyard facing Twenty-second Street.

Brenda started working for Eudunda Farmers in the supermarket section. Later she worked as a nurse’s aide working at both the Hutchinson Hospital and Tanunda Hospitals and private nursing at Para Para for Mr Leslie Cork until he died.

In the mid-1960s she worked as a Telephonist in Gawler for the Post Master Generals Department as it was known then long before it became known as Telstra. This was situated behind the Old Gawler Post Office in Murray Street.

Brenda had volunteered in many organisations Such as St John Ambulance, Royal Society for the Blind, Red Cross, Crippled Children’s Auxiliary and in the Uniting Church as a Sunday School Teacher.

Brenda had one child, Allison Tiller, from her marriage to Lance Tiller.

Lance and Brenda lived on Deane Street until their divorce.
