E.H.Coombe "History of Gawler" p176 "The Church of the Transfiguration - Gawler South. This church began its existence in 1895. The foundation stone was laid by Mrs. Dawes on April 3 of that year, and the church dedicated on its completion by Bishop Harmer on August 7 1895.

Canon Coombs, rector of St. Georges Church, had charge of the church with Rev.A.K.Chignell (assisting curate).....the furniture has all been presented at various times.....sanctuary chair and two pictures, the Rev. A.K.Chignell...."

Built in 1895 in stages.

On 18 January 1924 the church was one of many Gawler South buildings impacted by severe storm winds that hit shortly after midnight, it lost part of its roof.[1] Read the full description from the Bunyip (25 Jan 1924) and see the photos published in The Chronicle (26 Jan 1924).[2]

The new roof was installed in 1995 for the Church's Centenary Celebrations.

In 2002, the Church of the Transfiguration received over $100 000 for maintenance, from the will of the late 'Trix' Beatrice McConnell, a long standing member of the church.[3] From this money, approx. $40,000 was used to construct the toilet block, approx. $20,000 for a new organ and at 2014, over $30,000 remains for future Transfiguration Church maintenance.[3]

Outside gardens re-created in 2009 with existing bottle brush and some shrubs retained but primarily planted with grasses and shrubs which are generally indigenous to Gawler, under the supervision of GEHA and NRM personnel. Substantial additional plantings were scheduled for mid-2012.
