Windows Taxi and Hire Car, Ayling Street

Mr. Ted Window operated a taxi and hire car business from his home in Ayling Street. The hire car was a seven seater 1922 model car. There were two fold away seats built into the back of the front seat which converted it to a seven seater.

Hogben’s Bus and Taxi Service, Paxton Street

Doris and Ross Hogben started their business with a ‘blitz buggy’ operating a school run from Wasleys to Gawler and return, in 1944.

They later operated the Gawler Passenger Service running from Willaston to the Gawler Railway Station. They also had a couple of school runs. The vehicle was a 1934 Bedford Bus.

They added to their business with a taxi service .Taxi service costs (no definite date supplied) were two shillings flag fall and then a shilling a mile. According to Mr. Fred Brooks, they purchased a Reo Passenger Bus from Bull’s Busways. In 1950 Ted Window from Ayling Street bought this business and ran the bus service for 14 years.
