"This hotel was constructed in 1868, with the first licensee being William Kneese. This hotel was situated in the midst of a number of grain stores, and patronised by many farmers from the Barossa areas. It also had several German licensees during the 19'h century. In about 1902 the single-storey verandah was replaced with the current two-storey balcony."[1]
